History of Groomsport Feb 2016
As part of the "Feel Fab in Feb" event, GVA organised a very interesting and informative history tour of the village on Sunday 28th February 2016. The event was so popular that it was over-subscribed very soon after booking opened. Numbers were limited to 30. It is hoped to repeat this event sometime in the near future
Everyone enjoyed the hospitality provided afterwards by the Cottage Kitchen 39 Main Street.

First Aid Training Course
GVA facilitated a First Aid Training Course on Saturday 30th January 2016 in the Parish Hall. In addition to practice on well established medical techniques, it included training for use of the defibrillator.
This training is invaluable to the village and we would encourage all villagers to participate fully in future courses organised by the GVA.

Ghristmas Lights Switch-on
On Friday 27th November, we held our annual Christmas Carol Service at the village christmas tree. This year our switch-on ceremony was performed by Lady Sylvia Hermon MP. It was followed by refreshments for the adults and a visit to Santa for the young people.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the events.

The Creative Writing Class
We had the opportunity to join a creative writing class for 3 sessions in June. This was very competently led by our writer in residence, Ruth Farr. It is part of the 'Writing and Community : Ideas of Place.' project. Here are the results.

Ulster in Bloom
This year the village is making an effort to improve our standing in this competition. The committee met with Ian Beaney of ANDBC, in early spring 2015. We have subsequently tasked a sub-committee with engaging the village in this project. A public meeting was held on 23 May 2015 to formulate some ideas. The response of the community has been very positive indeed.
